According to Psychology Today, “A growth mindset, as conceived by Stanford psychologist

Carol Dweck and colleagues, is the belief that a person's capacities and talents can be

improved over time.” I first encountered the idea of a growth mindset in one of my kid’s

elementary school parent-teacher conferences several years ago. The teacher handed out a

colorful booklet about cultivating a growth mindset in your student and being a parent

overwhelmed with lots of colorful school information, I didn’t pay too much attention.

Fast forward a couple of years to a grant professionals conference where the keynote speaker,

a veteran in the grants field, was stressing the need for grant pros to continuously access

training and professional development. This brought me back to the idea of a growth mindset

and the importance the grant professionals community places on education and professional

development. Grant professionals are aware that keeping our skills fresh and up to date is

essential to the many roles we play in helping our clients and organizations thrive.

At Boyd Grants, we pride ourselves on cultivating a growth mindset by providing training and

coaching to our staff and clients. Our on-demand training series is a great way to learn new

information or review a topic related to grants. You can access our library of training videos by

visiting https://www.boydgrants.com/wordpress/training/.

Our staff of grant professionals not only provide training but also regularly participate in

continuing education to ensure their skills and knowledge reflect the most up-to-date best

practices. Many of our grant professionals have their Grant Professional Certification (GPC)

from the Grant Professionals Association (GPA). According to GPA, “The GPC certification is

based on rigorous standards and ongoing research to meet real-world demands of grant

professionals.” Continuing education is an important component of earning and renewing the

GPC. You can find more information about the GPC and its requirements at GPCI – Grant

Professionals Certification Institute (grantcredential.org).

Whether you are new to grants or a seasoned pro, cultivating a growth mindset can help you to

continue to learn and grow your skills. Get yourself some training!
